Faculty - Audio Lectures (including Podcasts)
Audio Lectures:
Guidance for Instructor Contact
- The time length of any audio lecture is up to the faculty member. A maximum of 60 minutes per recorded is suggested; consider chunking longer lectures into smaller segments.
- For this to count as instructor contact, the instructor must provide students a way to ask questions about the content.
- Example: “If you have questions about the content, please post to a discussion forum or email me.”
Create an Audio-Only Recording with D2L Video Note (maximum 25 minutes)
Option #1:
- Follow these directions to Create and insert a video note in D2L course and toggle ‘on’ the Audio only option as shown below.
- Audio notes can be added directly in Announcements, Grade Feedback, Content, Discussions, Quizzes.
Option #2:
- Create in D2L Media Library (this will be stored here to be added later as determined by instructor). Refer to image above to select audio only for this recording.
- After the recording is in the D2L Media Library, you will need to add it to the D2L page by either:
- Adding video note to D2L course as a link (video will open in a new tab for students to view)
- Embedding video note to D2L course (video will show directly on D2L course page)
Easily Caption Your Recording
Create an Audio-Only Recording using Zoom:
Do not use Camera; Only Enable Microphone
- Reference our article concerning using Zoom within D2L - Recording Your Meeting

Use a Podcast
If you identify a specific podcast that you would like to add to your D2L course, you can link to the podcast.
- It is recommended that you link directly to the podcast source rather than to a specific podcast distributor. For example, link to The Economists podcast page for students to access instead of The Economists podcast through Apple Podcasts.
- Once a link to the podcast is located, add it to the Content of your D2L page:
